You Were Made to Soar

My Father in law used to tell this story. There was once a baby eagle that fell from its nest and landed in a pen of chickens. Having no knowledge of his true identity, he grew up scratching the dirt and pecking at worms, believing he was just another chicken.

One day, an eagle soared high above the pen, its wings spread, gliding effortlessly across the sky. The young eagle gazed upward in wonder. "I wish I could fly like that," he murmured. "Don’t be foolish," the chickens clucked. "You are one of us. Chickens don’t fly like eagles. "So, the eagle returned to his daily routine, never realizing he was created for more—never knowing he was born to soar.

How many of us have believed the voices that told us we could never do great things for God? How often have we allowed fear or the opinions of others to keep us grounded when we were made to rise?

Scripture is filled with stories of men and women who refused to accept the limitations placed on them. Noah built an ark when there had never been rain. David, just a shepherd boy, dared to face a giant. Daniel stood firm in his faith, even when it led him to the lions’ den. Rahab risked everything to protect God’s people. Each of them had a choice—to listen to the voices of doubt or to trust in the calling God placed within them.

At the end of life, the greatest regrets are not the mistakes we made but the opportunities we never took—the dreams we left unfulfilled because we were afraid. What is the dream God has placed in your heart? What step of faith is He calling you to take? Maybe now is the time to write that book, start that ministry, forgive that person, or mend that relationship. Don’t let fear or the expectations of others keep you from soaring. You were made for more.

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” — Isaiah 40:31
